Creating a scene using provided assets

This was a small introductory project to game art at the beginning of my studies. The goal was to create a fully rendered scene with lighting using the provided assets. The models featured an ancient Egyptian theme that immediately gave me ideas for how I wanted to build my scene. I knew I wanted to create some type of temple, but after browsing through the models, I noticed this large golden dome model. I thought and tinkered with the model and had a new idea: I would keep the temple idea, but collapse it in the middle, with a dome sunken into the floor. I could then create a lighting setup that would beam onto the dome and reflect all over the room. Part of the goal was to create an immediate focal point within the level; something that instantly attracts players. And of course, nothing would be more eye-catching than a giant, shiny gold object. I went through multiple revisions and versions of this project. It started off as a very simple building, and I started to add props, fauna, lighting, and eventually a moat. I used simple techniques to make the scene more unique, such as creating the illusion of a statue broken in half by placing two pieces next to each other and flipping one upside down. I also used multiple smaller wall pieces to create a larger, more unique design. Overall, the project turned out really well. It was much smaller than others but served as a great introduction to level design and lighting. These concepts are especially important for an environment artist because they let you adapt your models to the scene, which in turn helps level designers and technical artists.
